When we believe the Gospel, we enter into a relationship with the wisest person in the world. Jesus knows how to really live life. And he wants us to come under his instruction and learn from him.
This is called discipleship. And discipleship is Training.
Have you ever been trained? Athletes train. "New hires" train. Soldiers train. Children are trained. Artists, laborers, doctors, and musicians are all trained to do what they do.
Training sounds intimidating at first. It can be work. But if you stick with it, one day you realize that you have skills, abilities, and even ideas that were never there before. You've matured. It feels amazing.
Jesus desires for every person who trusts him to have a transformed life. And he has the power to give us this incredible gift.
Jesus can help us with our relationships, our problems, our past, and our future. He has a plan. And even though learning from Jesus is work, it's life-giving!
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:29 ESV).
What he's asking of us is to "follow him" through the process of learning from him in his Word, the Bible. It also means learning from other Christians who are also learning for follow Jesus, too. (We really want to be loving and humble in this process. We're all still learning.)
Training Sundays are a time for our whole church family to come together and experience real gospel-centered discipleship. Christians should study alone, too. But so much of what God wants to teach us requires having others around and learning together. We need each other to grow to our fullest.
So on our training Sundays, we have a service that feels like a big bible study. It's not one guy talking. We all share and learn together.
- We study God's Word (Current Series: "How to Change: Getting Grace Through Paul's Epistles").
- We learn and discuss life and God together, in groups.
- We discover how to be truly led, helped, and transformed by Jesus in all of life.
- We help encourage and pray for one another. We're in this together.
These services are a little taste of what we do in our Traning Groups, which are the most important ministries in our church. They are where all the best growth happens. You can get a taste of what they are like, and why we think every person needs them.
We don't just want to learn about Jesus. We want to learn from Him.
Ready? Come! Learn with us, twice every month, as Jesus shows us all how to really live.
